I'm so honored that you're considering me to document this moment in your life.

I’ve been a lover of photos for as long as I can remember. Photos are what connect us to the past. They are what we have to remember. Not just the people, but to remember the feelings. The emotions. My approach to photography is both editorial and photojournalistic - documenting the beautiful moments as they happen while also providing gentle direction so my clients feel themselves. I appreciate natural light, beautiful tones brought to life on medium format, and fresh air. I want to create luminous works of art to tell your love story for years to come!

My why

From as young as I can remember, I've always been fascinated by photography. The ability to freeze a moment in time. To block out all the noise around us and just focus on that one moment. It wasn't until my dad passed away that the power of photography truly hit me. Realizing that photos are what connect us to the past. They are what we have to remember. Not just the people, but to remember the feelings. The emotions. At that moment, I realized that time is precious. Always fleeting. That the people we love and moments we share are not promised.

I don't believe in perfectionism. At a session, my focus is on capturing the realness and love of your family. While I do try to get the classic shot of everyone looking at the camera, I also understand that children will be children. Rather than forcing a child to sit still, I embrace them running around. Or the baby crying. Every phase of our lives will be different. If your child won't still still, the photos will show that in a fun way. And will show who your child is right now rather than the kid we tried to make him be for the day. My style is real and timeless. I want to take photos that you can feel. Photos where you can hear the laughter. See the joy. Feel the emotions. Photos that aren't just photos but a connection to our past.

Life is a collective of beautiful moments. Every part more beautiful than the last. We all have a story. I can't wait to tell yours!

"we can't imagine anyone more perfect"

location inspiration

After photographing hundreds of families over the past years, I’ve found that I'm not always the perfect fit for every family. And not every family is the best fit for me. That’s why this process begins with a conversation. Email me at jenna@jennamariephotography.co. I want to hear about your family, the type of session you'd like, and anything else you think I should know! I can't wait to hear more about you and your loved one(s)!

let's connect

Once your date is reserved, we'll connect to start chatting about possible locations for your session. I generally recommend choosing one location for family sessions. If it's a place you haven't been before, it might be helpful to visit during the time our session will take place. That way you have an idea of the light, crowds, closing time, etc! If you're not sure about where you would like to take your photos but you have a general idea of the look you would like, let me know and I'd be happy to recommend a few locations based on your aesthetic!

deciding on location

When picking outfits, look for clothes that compliment each other versus match. I tend to find that neutrals and/or softer toned colors photograph the best, as they're the most flattering on your skin and to our surrounding environment. Neutrals don't have to be boring! Look for clothes with pattern and texture. But be conscious with patterns. My general rule is that if one person has a noticeable pattern, the other person tones it down a bit. Layers are great, especially for cooler nights or fall sessions. And don’t forget accessories! Necklaces, cute shoes and nice watches are great ways to add interest to outfits.

what to wear

Prior to the day, we'll exchange numbers and finalize our location and what time we'll start! Please plan for your session to take about an hour from start to finish. On the day of your session, remember to arrive early just in case you should hit traffic! If we start the session late, it will take away time from our session.

the session

All images from our session are typically delivered within 2-3 weeks of the shoot date via an online gallery. This gallery will allow you to share your favorites with family, order prints and even download images to share on social media.

I offer my clients a variety of ways to turn your images into keepsakes. From prints to beautiful handmade albums, there are many beautiful ways to decorate your home to remind you of how special of a season of life you're in!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

next question

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD WE BOOK?

The sooner the better! Weekends are available between November and March. From April through October, only weekdays are available. But with our session starting as late as 7pm in the summer, it should be workable for most schedules!

WE'RE SO AWKWARD.

Unless you've modeled professionally, you're probably going to feel awkward in front of the camera. I take photos for a living, and I even feel like a deer in the headlights when I'm in front of the camera. You're going to feel awkward at first, but as the session goes on I think you'll find it way easier than you think. And don't worry about your kids. I'm well versed in capturing even the busiest of little ones.

WHAT IF MY KIDS WON'T SIT STILL?

Trust me when I tell you that this is every session. But you know what? I love being able to document your child's personality. Years from now, you'll be able to look back and show them photos of what they were like. Of how they never sat still. And would always love to run. Or to remember how cute your child was when they cried. Trust me to get the classic shot of you all looking at me. But embrace the imperfections. The harder you fight to get the kids to look, the harder they'll fight back. I know it's hard when it feels chaotic to see and trust the beautiful story that my camera is seeing!

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

No one wants to look like a wet dog in their photos so if it looks like it's going to rain, I'll be in touch via email or phone to reschedule. Because our weather can change so dramatically, I wait until the day of our session to make the call to reschedule. If it does rain, we can look to find a new date!

HOW WILL WE RECEIVE OUR PHOTOS?

Within a few weeks of your session, you'll receive an email with a link to an online gallery that will allow you to download high resolution images. The gallery is also set up to make ordering prints, albums and other keepsakes as easy as turning on a Roomba to clean your floors!

HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL WE GET?

Every session is different, so there's not a one-size-fits-all answer! While I guarantee at the bare minimum of 50 images, my goal is to give you just as many images as possible! That being said, most sessions average between 75-125.

WHEN WILL WE GET OUR GALLERY?

I aim to deliver galleries within 2-3 weeks of our session.

Where should we print our photos?

To ensure the most beautiful images that match what you see on your computer, I highly recommend that you print through the print lab that's attached to your gallery. It's not as expensive as you'd think! However, with your print release, you are welcome to print anywhere!

There are so many pretty locations to choose from for our session. I'll look to you first to see if there's any specific location that you'd like. Or maybe there's a certain type of location you'd like. From there I can help recommend specific locations based on the season. To get you to start thinking about locations, here are some of the most popular spots. If you feel unsure, email me and I can tell you some of my personal favorites. Not all are family friendly, so please feel free to ask and I can help guide you.

The above locations are all beautiful but I also love exploring meaningful locations with my couples!
